Meet Dr. R. Ricardo Ramirez

Dr. R. Ricardo Ramirez was born in Laredo, Texas, and raised in Hebbronville, Texas – a small ranching community about 55 miles east of Laredo. Born into a ranching family, Dr. Ramirez grew up with a passion for cattle ranching.

After attending Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State), Dr. Ramirez transferred to St. Mary’s University and graduated in 1980 with a dual Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry. It was during this time that he met his wife, Carmen, and together they have four daughters.

Dr. Ramirez began his dental education following his graduation, in1981, at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, and graduated in 1984. He began his dental practice in San Antonio shortly thereafter. After 6 months of general practice, Dr. Ramirez opened up a dental practice in his hometown of Hebbronville, 180 miles south of his home in San Antonio. Being the only dentist in the rural community of 5,000, Dr. Ramirez found himself very busy. On a weekly basis, he makes the trip to Hebbronville, where he provides exceptional dental care on Monday’s and Tuesday’s, before returning to San Antonio to practice the remainder of the week. It has been a pleasure and an honor to continue to serve an area of need for the past 31 years. He knew that when he applied to Dental School, his primary focus would be to serve an area of need, and this has not faltered. He continues to provide service to the community and shows no signs of slowing down.

Continuing his education has been a large part of Dr. Ramirez’s dental practice. Having a passion for orthopedics and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, he has spent many years dedicating his continued studies in this area of dentistry. He received his Fellowship within the Academy of General Dentistry in August of 2001. He is continuing to pursue his Masters.

Aside from Dentistry, Dr. Ramirez is very active in ranching. One of the few continuously operating ranches in the United States sharing the 200 year plus legacy, Dr. Ramirez’s family ranch (Charco Redondo), is where he spends much of his free time. He manages a cow-calf operation along with registered quarter horses and white-tail deer. Realizing the need for symbiosis between wildlife and cattle over the last 30 years, he has become extremely passionate about stewardship of the land, and has developed a true appreciation for conservation, ei water and wildlife habitat.

After 31 years of practice, Dr. Ramirez is proud of the fact that he now has his daughter that has joined the practice and looks forward to a new state-of-the-art facility opening in the Spring of 2016. Due to his passion for dentistry, he is excited for the next 20 years!
